How do I reset student passwords?

Updated on

The following steps will help you reset a student's password from your dashboard. This is useful when a student cannot log in, has forgotten their password, or did not receive the login email from the platform.

NOTE: Many school email servers block external emails from the courseware platform. We recommend creating passwords for your students and distributing them directly, rather than relying on the platform's email-based password reset.

Step 1: Select the student and reset the password

  1. Log into courseware.toonboom.com.
  2. Navigate to your Progress team dashboard.
  3. Find the student in your class roster.
  4. Click on the Edit button next to the student's name to open their profile.
  5. The Edit User form will open:

  1. Update the student's information:
    • In the Password field, enter a new password for the student.
    • In the Confirm Password field, type the password again.
    • If you want to require that the student resets their password during their next login, select Yes. If not, select No.
  2. Click Submit to apply changes.

Step 2: Share the new password with the student

Once you have reset the password, share it with the student directly using your preferred method:

  • Written on paper in class
  • Through your school's internal messaging system
  • Verbally during class

The student can then log in to courseware.toonboom.com using their email address (username) and the new password.

Q&A

Question:

My student's login email never arrived. What should I do?

Answers:
  • This is common when school email servers block external emails. Reset the student's password manually using the steps above and share the credentials directly.
  • If your school's IT team is able to whitelist external IPs, the following addresses can be added to resolve email delivery issues:
    • 54.212.38.51
    • 44.242.96.169
    • 44.235.138.0
    • 35.81.127.209
Question:

Can a student reset their own password?

Answer:

Students can use the "Forgot Password" link on the login page if they have access to the email address associated with their account. If the email is a generic placeholder, or the school blocks external emails, you will need to reset it for them.
