About the v2 license and License Wizard 2.0

This article covers the basics about Toon Boom’s v2 licensing architecture and the License Wizard 2.0 layout.

What is a v2 license?

The v2 license is a recent addition to Toon Boom’s licensing options and has the following technical specifications:

• Compatibility: v2 Licenses are backwards compatible with Harmony 24, 22, and 21, but it does require the installation of v25.1 or above for initial validation.
• Offline Security: Licenses function offline for up to 5 days before requiring a server heartbeat, ensuring IP security.

How is the v2 license different?

This type of license introduces a change in how licenses are secured, transferred, and reclaimed. It offers the following benefits:

For Admin:

The Enterprise License Portal now allows you to retrieve licenses, not just assign them.

• Remote Retrieval: Admins can recall a license from a specific User ID, or machine, directly through the portal.
• Instant Reallocation: Admins can "collect" a license from a freelancer who has left the project, and immediately reassign it to a new artist. This negates needless waiting for a license to expire.

For Artists:

Artists will now have an easier time moving between the studio and home.

• Direct Transfer: With v2, an artist simply logs into their new machine and transfers their license with a click of a button.
• Automatic Handshake: The system automatically invalidates the session on the old machine and activates the new one in a single step.

About the License Wizard 2.0

Toon Boom software from version 25.1 and above will now have the License Wizard  2.0.

Upon opening the License Wizard 2.0, you will see the following screen:

1. This Menu includes the following options:
   • Activate/Return Licenses in your Account
   • Activate License Key
   • Manage License Keys
   • License Key Utilities
2. Sign in: Log into your account with your Toon Boom ID.
3. Activate License Keys: Click on this to bring up license activation options.
4. Need Help with Sign In?: Clicking this will take you to the License Wizard 2.0 documentation.
