Why am I having display issues with the software in Windows? (AMD graphics or other)
Updated on
To ensure optimal performance and stability while using Toon Boom software, it is essential that your system utilizes the correct graphics hardware. By default, Windows may sometimes prioritize power saving over performance, assigning the software to an integrated graphics chip rather than your dedicated high-performance GPU. This can lead to display issues, lag, or rendering errors.
This article guides you through forcing your computer to prioritize your dedicated graphics card for Toon Boom products. Before changing any settings, ensure you are using the latest drivers for your specific card. You can update your GPU drivers by consulting the hardware manufacturer’s website directly.
NOTE: AMD card performance is subject to driver compatibility with OpenGL rendering from the hardware manufacturers.
Step 1: Open the Graphics Settings
Open Windows Search by clicking the search icon or search box on the taskbar.
Enter “Graphics settings” and select the result.
The Graphics menu of the Windows Settings opens.
Step 2: Locate the software
Under the Custom settings for applications section, do one of the following:
Use the Search list to find the software
Use the App list to locate the Toon Boom software.
If you cannot find the software using either of those options, use the Add desktop app button to add it to the list by locating the software EXE file.
NOTE: By default, the software is installed under C:\\Program Files (x86)\Toon Boom Animation inside a folder that has the same name as the software. You can find the EXE file by going to win64 folder > bin folder.
Step 3: Set the preference in the app dropdown
Once the software has been added to the list, use the dropdown arrow in the app list to change the GPU preference parameter to High Performance.
