Harmony offers multiple options for scene resolutions, however sometimes you may need something a little more bespoke for your project. This article will show you how to create custom camera resolutions for specific scenes.
| NOTE: The camera resolution in Harmony is technically the size of your canvas and is defined by a thin black line in the Camera view. Anything outside of this resolution will be cut off when rendering. |
Option 1: Adjusting the resolution in the Welcome Screen
Use this option if you haven’t yet created the scene that needs the custom resolution.
- Open Harmony to the Welcome Screen.
- Under the Camera Size section, click on the Plus
button.
- The New Resolution window opens:
- Adjust the following according to your needs:
- Resolution Name: Name your custom resolution.
- Resolution: Choose the length and height of the resolution.
- Field of View: Choose the field of view fit, or input a custom amount.
- Frame Rate: Choose the frame rate from the preset dropdown, or put in a custom amount.
- Once done, click Create.
- The new custom resolution will now be available in the Camera Size dropdown. Make sure it’s selected before creating the new scene.
- If you want to delete a custom preset, simply select it from the Camera Size dropdown and press the Remove
button.
| TIP: If there is a preset that is already close to your custom resolution, choose it from the Camera Size dropdown before opening the New Resolution window. This will automatically fill the fields with that preset’s settings. |
| NOTE: Any custom presets created in the Welcome Screen will be available in the Scene Settings dialog and vice versa. |
Option 2: Adjusting the resolution in the Scene Settings
Use this option if you have already created the scene that needs the custom resolution, or just want to add a custom preset.
- In the top menu, select Scene > Scene Settings.
- The Scene Settings dialog box will open:
- In the Resolution tab, adjust the following according to your needs:
- Resolution: Choose the length and height of the resolution.
- Frame Rate: Choose the frame rate from the preset dropdown, or put in a custom amount.
- Field of View: Choose the field of view fit, or input a custom amount.
- Projection: Choose the projection. Perspective is the standard type. For more information, see What is the difference between a perspective camera and an orthographic camera?
- If you press OK now, the resolution will apply itself to the scene but will not be saved as a preset.
- To save the resolution as a preset, click the Save Resolution Setting
button.
- The Custom Resolution Name window will open:
- Type in the name for the custom preset and click OK.
- In the Scene Settings window, the new preset will show in the preset list.
- Click OK to close the Scene Settings window.
| TIP: A preset created in the Scene Settings dialog cannot be deleted in the same window, however it can be deleted from the Welcome Screen as detailed in Option 1. |
| NOTE: When committing the resolution changes to the current scene, existing artwork will adjust itself accordingly but still may need some editing. If using bitmap artwork, keep an eye on quality when adjusting resolution. |
