By default, empty backgrounds in Storyboard Pro exports are white. If you need to render a different background colour for your storyboard export, try this trick.
Step 1: Add a video track and move it below the storyboard
- Add a new video track in the timeline by doing one of the following:
- In the top menu, select Storyboard > New > New Video Track.
- In the Clips and Tracks toolbar, click the New Video Track
button.
- In the Timeline view, if you have an existing video track, right click on it and select New Video Track.
- The new track will appear above the storyboard timeline layer:
- Right click on the video track and select Move Track Down until the selected video track appears beneath the storyboard track.
Step 2: Add a clip to the track
- Right click on the track where you want to add the artwork and select New Empty Clip.
- A clip appears on the track:
- Click on the New_Clip in the timeline.
- In the Stage or Camera view, you will see the Layer menu change from the storyboard track’s layers to the Video Track’s layers. Use the default A layer or create a new one.
- In the Stage or Camera view, use the Rectangle
tool and Paint Bucket
tool to create a solid background of colour. Make sure the shape extends slightly past the camera frame.
Step 3: Adjust the clip length to fit your needs
- Adjust the background clip timing by hovering on the edges of the clip to get the double-pointed arrow cursor, then click and drag to lengthen and shorten as needed.
- The background colour will appear underneath your storyboard panels for as long as the image clip lasts.
| NOTE: Video track clips are not affected by camera moves. The image clip will remain placed behind the camera, unaffected by any changes in the storyboard. |
Q&A
Question:
Can I use an imported image instead of creating a coloured layer?
Answer:
Yes, do any of the following:
- Drag and drop an image file from the file manager of your computer onto the video track.
- Drag and drop an image file from your Storyboard Pro Library onto the video track.
Right-click on the video track and select Import Video/Images as clips, then navigate to the image you want to use as a background and select it.
