About Authorized Training Centres (ATCs)

Updated on

A Toon Boom Authorized Training centre (ATC) is a training centre that is recognised by Toon Boom Animation for the quality of their education when it comes to short-term, instructor-led, technical training of Toon Boom software and concepts.

Visit the official Authorized Training centre web page.

What is an ATC?

Courses offered by ATCs are designed for professionals working in the technical fields of animation, television, film, games and advertising. ATC certificates ensure that the attendees of their programs are trained on the latest skills and best practices using Toon Boom software.

ATCs can exist anywhere in the world and classes can be conducted in-person or online.

How is an ATC different from a COE?

ATCs and COEs are awarded to different types of institutions. The following table highlights these differences.

Authorized Training Centres: Centres of Excellence:
  • Training Centres
  • Focus on teaching the technical aspects of software
  • Courses are short-term (a few weeks)
  • Have smaller classes (fewer students)
  • Post-secondary institutes
  • Teach full coverage of the animation pipeline, from theory and history to software
  • Courses are long term (3 - 4 years)
  • Have a large number of students

If your institute matches a Centre of Excellence, see About Centres of Excellence (COEs).

What is required to become an ATC?

To be able to apply for ATC status, your training centre must;

  • teach courses using the latest version of Harmony Premium, Harmony Advanced or Storyboard Pro software.
  • have instructors that have a minimum of two years experience working in the animation industry in pre-production, production or post-production creative jobs.
  • have instructors that are qualified to teach Toon Boom Harmony or Storyboard Pro and must stay on top of industry best practices. It is strongly encouraged that each instructor attend at least one of Toon Boom’s online courses pertinent to their discipline per year.
  • have a curriculum that aligns with Toon Boom’s best practices and recommendations.
  • provide a dedicated professional space for classes.
  • have a class size that is limited to a maximum of 15 students.
NOTE: It is encouraged that teachers submit their resume when applying to become an ATC.
