How do I customize a toolbar?

Updated on

Many toolbars have buttons that are hidden by default, but it’s very easy to customize which buttons are displayed, and in what order.

Step 1: Open the Toolbar Manager window

  1. Locate the toolbar you want to add buttons to and right-click on it.
  2. At the bottom of the pop-up menu, select Customize…
  3. The Toolbar Manager window appears. This window shows all hidden tools on the left, and all visible toolbar tools on the right:

Step 2: Add buttons to the toolbar

  1. Use the Available Tools search bar at the top left of the Toolbar Manager window, or scroll through the menu on the left-hand side of the window to find the desired tool.
  2. Select the tool and it will highlight:

  1. Click on the arrow button in the middle of the window that is pointing towards the Toolbar section on the right:

  1. The tool will be added to the bottom of the Toolbar list on the right, and will be added to the end of the toolbar.

  1. If you are happy with the order of the buttons on the toolbar, select the OK button. If you would like to reorder the buttons, follow the next step.

Step 3: Change the order of the toolbar buttons

  1. In the right side of the Toolbar Manager window, select the tool you’d like to reorder.
  2. Use the up and down arrow in the middle of the window to move the tool up and down. The higher up the tool, the further left in the toolbar it will be.

  1. Select the OK button when you are happy with the tool’s placement.
  2. The tool’s place in the toolbar will be updated:

Step 4: Remove buttons from the toolbar

  1. In the right side of the Toolbar Manager window, select the tool you’d like to remove.
  2. With the tool selected, click on the arrow button in the middle of the window that is pointing towards the Available Tools section.

  1. The new tool will be removed from the Toolbar section, and will be listed in the Available Tools alphabetically.

  1. Select OK when you have removed all the unwanted buttons.
  2. The buttons will no longer be visible on the toolbar.
