How do I isolate the onion skin to specific layers?

Updated on

By default, the Onion Skin tool in Storyboard Pro shows the onion skin of all layers in the selected panel. This can sometimes be too busy visually, or can obstruct artwork. This article will show you how to restrict your onion skin to selected layers.

Step 1: Activate the Onion Skin

  1. Locate the Onion Skin toolbar, or add it by going to Windows > Toolbars > Onion Skin.
  2. In the Onion Skin toolbar, activate the Onion Skin by pressing the Onion Skin icon.

  1. The onion skin will now be visible for all layers of the selected panel.

Step 2: Activate Toggle Selected Layers Only

  1. In the Onion Skin toolbar, click on the Toggle Selected Layers Only button. If you cannot see the button, use the double arrow icon on the end of the toolbar to reveal it.

  1. The onion skin will now only be visible on the selected layer or layers.

  1. Selecting different layers will automatically update the onion skin to show on those layers instead.

  1. You can select many layers by using Shift + select.
NOTE: The images used in this article have Lightness as Alpha activated for the onion skin. If you would like to know more, see How do I make the onion skin more transparent?
