Sometimes the Onion Skin can look very busy and this makes it difficult to differentiate what we’re seeing. There are a few things we can do to change the onion skin visuals.
Option 1: Change the appearance in the Preferences
- In the top menu, select Edit > Preferences.
- In the Preferences window, select the Drawing tab.
- On the right side of the Light Table section are several available options to change the onion skin appearance.
- Choose an Onion Skin Render Style from the drop down to get one of the following results:
Coloured | Original Colours | Coloured Outline |
- Adjust the following to change the white value or opacity of the onion skin:
- Onion Skin: Maximum/Minimum Wash Value (0.0-1.0): These fields define the maximum/minimum amount for white that will be added to Onion Skin layers. Use a value between 0 and 1.
- Onion Skin: Maximum/Minimum Opacity (0.0-1.0): These fields define the maximum/minimum amount of opacity that will be added to Onion Skin layers. Use a value between 0 and 1.
- Once you are done, click the OK button to apply the changes.
Option 2: Change the colour in the Preferences
The default colours might be hard to see, but it is possible to change the colours that will work better with your preferences or the needs of your project.
- In the top menu, select Edit > Preferences.
- In the Preferences window, select the General tab.
- On the left side locate the Colours section and click on the Edit Colours button.
- The Edit Colours dialog box will appear.
- In the Drawing tab, double click on the colour swatch for either Onion Skin Colour: Previous or Onion Skin: Next to bring up the Select Colour dialog box:
- Choose a new colour, and hit the OK button.
- Once done, click the OK to exit the Colour Edit window, then OK again to exit the Preferences window.
NOTE: Changing the Onion Skin Previous/Next colours will only affect the Coloured and Coloured Outline Onion Skin Render Styles. |
Option 3: Change the settings in the Onion Skin view
- Open the Onion Skin view using the Windows menu, or the Add
button on an existing view.
- The Onion Skin view will appear:
- To adjust the overall opacity of the Onion Skin, adjust the slider in the centre.
- To change the next and previous colours of the onion skin, click on the corresponding coloured block and choose a new colour:
- In the top-left corner of the Onion Skin view, select the dropdown menu
button to change the Onion Skin Render Styles, as mentioned in Option 1.
NOTE: You can be even more specific with how to view your onion skin by using the Advanced Onion Skin |
