About Pencil Texture palettes
Pencil Texture palettes behave almost identically to Colour palettes, but in place of colour swatches, the palette stores textures used in pencil line presets. When a new scene is created, the default Harmony Pencil Texture palette is also created, and the default pencil lines are automatically linked to it.
The default pencil textures in the Pencil Texture palette are the same as the default textures found in the Texture tab of the Pencil tool properties.
Unlike a brush line, pencil textures can be updated even after the line is drawn. This allows for more options when updating assets and animation. Giving pencil textures their own palette means that they can be linked, imported, and updated just like a regular colour palette. This gives users more control and consistency with their pencil textures than one might have by simply importing preset files.
Where do I find Pencil Texture palettes?
Pencil Texture palettes are found in the Colour view. They are not displayed by default, but you can use the Show Pencil Texture Palettes button or Show All Palettes
button in the Colour view to display all the available Pencil Texture palettes.
NOTE: The Show Pencil Texture Palette buttons may be greyed out when you first open a scene. Simply use the Select tool to select artwork, or use the Pencil tool to make them available. |
How do I use Pencil Texture palettes?
Similar to Colour palettes, the following can be done with Pencil Texture palettes:
- New Pencil Texture palettes can be made and named.
- New texture swatches can be created.
- Texture swatches can be renamed and deleted.
- Textures can be edited or added to existing swatches. See Replacing a Pencil Texture for more.
- The palette can be recovered.
- Pencil Texture palettes can be set to default so that they load in automatically with every new scene. See Setting the Default Pencil Texture Palette for more information.
- Linked Pencil Texture palettes will behave like linked colour palettes and automatically update linked pencil lines when changed. See What's the difference between linking and importing a palette? for more information.
NOTE: Colour palettes can be converted to Pencil Texture palettes, but not the other way around. See Converting a Colour Palette to a Pencil Texture Palette for more. |
