About the Guides view

Updated on

This article outlines the Guides view and its uses. For more information about using the guides, see How do I use the Perspective guides? and How do I use the Symmetry Guides?

What is the Guides view?

The Guides view allows you to access and manage the drawing guides. Unlike most views, the Guides view is available in both Harmony and Storyboard Pro, and its functionality is exactly the same in both softwares. To open the Guides view, see How do I open a view?

The Guides view interface

Layout

The Guides view consists of a Guides section (top) and a Symmetry section (bottom). These sections give you access to the different categories of guides:

  • Guides section: Gives you access to the available drawing and perspective guides.
  • Symmetry section: Gives you access to the available symmetry guides.

Buttons and Features

The following features can be found in the Guides view and work for both categories of guides:

Button  Name and Description

New Guide:
Add a new guide from the dropdown menu.

Delete Guide:
Remove the selected guide from the list.

Guide Menu:
Contains more options for your guides, such as import/export and rename.

Enable Guide: Toggle to show or hide the selected guide (this can also be achieved by clicking on or off of the guide in the list window).

Lock Guide:
Locks the selected guide so that it cannot be edited accidentally.

Align with Guide:
Forces every stroke you draw to align with the guide’s lines, assuring accurate perspective. Deactivate this if you want to draw freehand, but still have the guide active.

Enable Guide with Eraser:
Allows you to see the guidelines when the Eraser is selected.

Full Cursor Display: When you hover over the guide’s lines, you will see dotted lines reaching out of the cursor. When Full Cursor Display is on, these lines will keep going on until infinity. If off, the lines will be shortened.

Show Reference Lines: When on, this will show all of the guide’s reference lines. When off, you will only see the horizon line. This does not affect Align with Guide, and you can still snap to the reference lines even when they are not visible.

Number of Lines slider: This slider allows you to see more or fewer reference lines. It does not affect where your tool can snap and is merely a visual preference.
