How do I find my drawing in the Drawing view?

Updated on

Sometimes it can be tricky finding artwork in the Drawing view due to the size of the artwork, or the shifting of the drawing space. The steps below will help you troubleshoot how to find your artwork quickly in the Drawing view.

Step 1: Make sure a drawing is selected

  1. Select the drawing that you want to see in the Drawing view by doing one of the following:
    • In the Camera view, click on the artwork with the Transform tool.
    • In the Timeline view, select the drawing frame of the artwork. You can also select the whole layer if it only contains one drawing frame.
    • In the Node view (Harmony Premium), select the drawing node.
  2. Select or open the Drawing view. If you still don’t see your artwork, try the following step.

Step 2: Check the art layers

By default, the Drawing view only shows the artwork on the active art layer. Sometimes we can activate a layer without realising, which results in the Drawing view being blank. Do the following to check the art layers.

  1. In the Art Layer toolbar, click on each of the art layer buttons and check if any artwork comes up in the Drawing view (Overlay, Line Art, Colour Art, Underlay).

  1. If you still do not see your artwork, click on the Preview All Art Layers button to see all artwork on all art layers.
  2. If you see your artwork, turn off the Preview All Art Layers button and repeat the first instruction to identify which art layer the artwork is on.
  3. If you still do not see the artwork, try the following set of instructions.
NOTE: Having the Preview All Art Layers button activated will not allow you to edit all the art layers at the same time. Even though you can see all of the artwork, you will still have to select a specific art layer to edit it. Alternatively, you can use the Apply to Line and Colour Art button in the Tool Properties view to edit multiple art layers at a time.

Step 3: Reset the Drawing view

Sometimes the Drawing view gets shifted while working in Harmony. Resetting the view will re-centre your drawing space, and is an effective way of finding artwork that has been shifted away from the view. Do the following:

  1. In the Drawing view, use the keyboard shortcut Shift + M to reset the view.
  2. If resetting the view did not work, repeat the instructions from Step 2 to check the art layers.

Q&A

Question 1:

Why am I only seeing the artwork on one drawing layer when I have multiple selected?

Answer:

By default, the Drawing view in Harmony only allows for one selected image at a time to be seen. You can use the Show Light Table button to see a washed out version of the artwork on other drawing layers.

Question 2:

Why are parts of my drawing missing?

Answers:
  1. If you’ve separated the artwork onto art layers, you can only see the artwork on the selected art layer. Use the Preview All Art Layers button on the Art Layers toolbar to see the artwork on all art layers.
  2. If the affected drawing uses bitmap layers, or is an imported bitmap image, it cannot be seen in the Drawing view. Only vector artwork can be seen in the Drawing view.
