In Storyboard Pro, there is technically only one storyboard track. However, you can add video tracks on which you can place video and image clips. You can even create layers and time the clips separately from the storyboard track.
Step 1: Add a new video track
- To add a video track, do one of the following:
- In the top menu, select Storyboard > New > New Video Track.
- In the Clips and Tracks toolbar, click the New Video Track
button.
- In the Timeline view, if you have an existing video track, right click on a blank space or on its name and select New Video Track.
- The new track will appear above the storyboard timeline layer:
Step 2: Add clips to the track
Clips on a video track can hold both artwork and video information. These are coloured coded to let you know what type you are working with.
- Blue clips: These clips allow you to edit layers and artwork like regular storyboard panels.
- Green clips: These clips include video files. You can still create layers and artwork here, but the video layer itself can only be edited by using the Layer Transform
tool.
- If you would like to add existing artwork to the video track, do one of the following:
- Drag and drop a layer or layers onto the video track from a panel on the storyboard timeline layer.
- Right click on the track where you want to add the artwork and select Import Videos/Images as Clips, then choose the file you want to import onto the track.
- Drag and drop a compatible file onto the video track from your computer’s file management system.
- Drag and drop a file from the Library view onto the video track.
- If you would like to create new artwork on the video track:
- Right click on the track where you want to add the artwork and select New Empty Clip.
- The clip will appear on the video track:
- If the clip contains a video, the name of the video track will appear above the clip’s layers, and the video itself will be available as a selectable layer.
Step 3: Modify the clip artwork, position and length
By default, image (blue) clips are one second long, and video (green) clips will automatically take on the length of the video file (unless other import settings are chosen).
To edit the clips and their content, do the following:
- Modifying artwork: To modify the artwork in the clip, select it. The layers panel will now show the contents of the clip in the same way you view it on a storyboard panel. Edit layers with the same tools you would use on a regular panel layer. Edit video layers using the Layer Transform
tool.
- Moving clips: In the Timeline view, click and drag clips to move them.
- Timing clips: Adjust clip timing by hovering on the edges to get the double-pointed arrow cursor, then click and drag to lengthen and shorten as needed.
- Layer motion: You can add layer animations using the Layer Transform
tool, simply activate the layer motion and apply keyframes as usual. Clips containing layer animation will appear as below:
- Track order: New video tracks will always appear above the storyboard track. To place the clips underneath the storyboard artwork, right click on the video track and select Move Track Down until the selected video track appears beneath the storyboard track.
| NOTE: The timing of clips is independent of the timing of the storyboard. You can make them last as long or as short as you like, and add as many clips as you want on the track. However, clips are still automatically linked to panels and can be unlinked by deactivating the sync |
| WARNING: Video and image clips are not affected by camera movements. They are independent from your animatic. By default, image imports will fit inside the camera frame. |
