How do I move a layer out of a group?

Updated on

A group is a folder in which several layers can be nested. You can easily move layers in and out of groups by doing the following.

Step 1: Select and move the layer

  1. In the layers list, locate the group with the layer you want to move.
  2. Make sure the group is open, then select the layer you want to move out of the group.

  1. Click and drag on that layer to move it to another position in the layers list. A green line will appear between the layers as you drag across them, this indicates where the layer will be placed when you let go.

Keep in mind that layers inside of a group are indented, and ones outside of groups are not. Use the position of the layers to help you move the layer to the right place.

  1. When the green line is in the desired position, release the layer. It will now be in its new position outside of the group.
