This document covers some of the most frequently encountered questions and issues regarding testing and exams on the BrightShift platform. If you have additional questions that have not been answered or require further assistance, please contact Brightshift Support - support@summitcgi.com

To see general BrightShift usage questions, see FAQ: Using the BrightShift platform.

What is a passing grade?

  • For the Storyboard Pro exam: 70% or 18/25 correct answers
  • For Harmony Premium & Advanced exams: 70% or 25/35 correct answers

How much time do students have to complete the exam?

Students will have 45 minutes to complete the exam.

Can students be given extra time or special accommodations to finish their exam?

Students with special needs (i.e. students with Individual Education Plans) may receive reasonable accommodations for their special needs provided that those accommodations do not compromise test integrity. The ET version of the exam (extended time) can be assigned at your discretion, and will appear in the “Select Tests to Assign” dropdown when assigning tests. Students will be given an hour and a half to complete the exam, instead of the standard 45 minutes. If you need more information about special accommodations, please contact Brightshift Support - support@summitcgi.com.

If a student fails on their first attempt, can they retake the exam and if so when?

Yes. Students are eligible to test again after the 21-day retake waiting period is over.

How many credits are needed per exam?

One (1) credit/testing voucher allows students to each test three (3) times.

Can credits be transferred from one school to another?

Yes. Please contact Brightshift Support - support@summitcgi.com for assistance.

How long are my testing credits valid for?

Credits are valid for one year from the date of purchase.

What if a student’s test is interrupted (loss of internet connection, power outage, computer failure etc.)?

If a student experiences a technical interruption during their test, the proctor can re-authorize student test login and allow the student to pick up where they left off.

NOTE: It could take up to 5 minutes for the restart button to appear in the proctor’s dashboard. The page will need to be manually refreshed and students will need to log back in to resume testing.

What if I forgot my username and password (non-students)?

For non-students, usernames will always be a valid email address. If you’ve forgotten your password you can attempt to reset it by clicking the Forgot Password button on the login page. You can also contact your administrator, or Brightshift Support - support@summitcgi.com for assistance.

What if a student forgets their username and password?

Students are highly encouraged to set up their recovery password question while creating their student profiles. If this step has been completed, they’ll be able to reset their password by clicking the Forgot Password button on the student login page.

Instructors, proctors, and administrators can also help with username and password recovery. Usernames can be recovered from the roster. They will appear next to their name on the roster detail screen. Passwords will reset to a default “Summit1” from the roster screen. This can only be done if the student has already completed their student profile.

I accidentally unlocked an exam for the wrong student, what now?

As long as the student doesn’t launch the exam, the system will automatically reset the exam to assigned status after 30 minutes.

If an exam is flagged for review, what does that mean?

A flag will appear as an indicator that the student clicked outside of the testing window multiple times. This does not necessarily imply that the student cheated, rather they just left the screen. Proctors are an integral part of the testing process and therefore should be the best judge if the test taker is cheating.

How do I retrieve an unused credit (a credit that was assigned but never used)?

If you’ve assigned a credit to a student but they never attempted the exam, you can reclaim that credit back into your account, provided no exam attempt was made.

To unassign an unused exam credit:

  1. Go to the assign student test tab in the roster view and select the student.
  2. Click the unassign exam at the top of the screen and confirm action.
  3. Return to the roster dashboard view, uncheck the test assignment toggle next to the students name, and click save.

This will return the credit to your available balance for future use.

Can I remotely proctor an exam, and if so, how?

Yes, remote proctoring is supported. To set it up, visit the resource section on the BrightShift website and navigate to the video tutorial area. There you’ll find a step-by-step walkthrough on how to enable and manage remote proctoring for your students. brightshiftinc.com/resources/

How can I prepare my students for the exam?

Our Associate Certification Kit is a centralized library for educators containing all essential study material. We recommend visiting the teaching and learning resources tab (organized by exam) to explore the study resource alignment guide and practice tests

Each module is hyperlinked to our Learn Portal, guiding students through a comprehensive learning journey. After completing the modules, students can test their knowledge by taking the available practice tests.
