How do I import a custom brush tip?

Updated on

If you can’t find what you need in Harmony’s brush preset library, you can create a custom brush made from an image of your choice.

This article outlines how to import a custom brush tip. If you want to know how to create an image for a custom brush tip, please see What format and appearance should a custom brush tip have?

Step 1: Import the file for the brush tip

  1. In the Tools toolbar, select the Brush tool.
  2. Go to the Tools Properties view. In the Vector Brush Properties section, select the Show Extended Properties button.

  1. The Vector Brush Properties window appears:

  1. Select the Tip tab on the left.

  1. On the right side of the brush tip preview, click on the Add button.

  1. A browser will open. Locate the image file you want to use for the custom brush tip.
  2. Click Open once done.
  3. The new custom tip will be added, and will be organized alphabetically.

  1. Click on the New Brush Preset button to save the brush tip and have it show up in the Tool Properties presets window.

Q&A

Question:

The brush tip I’ve imported doesn’t seem to be working?

Answer:

Double check that you’ve saved the new tip to the custom brush using the New Brush Preset button before exiting the window.

Question:

The brush tip file was made with colour, but it's greyscale when imported?

Answer:

Brush tool tips use greyscale to determine transparency, so all images used for brush tips will automatically be converted to greyscale when imported. See What format and appearance should a custom brush tip have? for more information.
